Unveiling models Salve Mater in Lovenjoel (Bierbeek)

This morning, the new Salve Mater project was presented to the public on the “Groot Park” site by the developer ViRiX.

The project has a rich history, dating back to ca. 1925. At that time, several pavilions were built on the site in a typical English style. Until a few years ago, Salve Mater was a psychiatric institution for women, which is now being renovated and converted into luxury apartments. In this renovation, respect for existing architecture comes first. There are many elements that have been preserved, such as a church organ, a cassette ceiling, a statue of Mary and Jesus, etc.

The existing buildings will be completely stripped and then rebuilt into a complex of approx. 55 residential units with various communal facilities. A wellness centre will be housed in the former church, among other things.

Completion of the project is planned for mid-2020.
